Bubinga
(Guibourtia demeusei.)
Description
A heavy hardwood from Africa. The heartwood is a red brown colour and often very interlocked grain.
Workability
Very tough to work. Can pick out when planed due to interlocked grain and can burn when routed or sanded. Because it is hard it polishes very well.
Applications
Can be used in a range of furniture applications.
Availability
Not much around, limited in supply.
Hardness
880 - 900Kg/m3 It seems harder than the figures suggest!!

Moderately durable.
