Celery Top Pine
(Phyllocladus asplenifolius .)
Description
A medium sized softwood that grows in the wet areas of Tasmania. Heartwood
is a pale yellow brown and the sapwood is narrow and difficult to distinguish.
This is a fine grained hard “softwood”.
Workability
Celery works well though can spring a bit when re-sawn. Being fairly hard
and fine grained the finish off the machine is excellent though take care in
areas of grain direction change
Applications
Was once widely used for many applications but is now mainly used in boat
building and fine wood craft.

Getting hard to get.
Hardness
Janka 4.5 650Kg/m3 Fairly hard.
Durability
Class 2 quite durable.
