Coachwood
Ceratopetalum apetalum
Description
This medium sized hardwood grows in NSW and southern QLD. The heartwood is a
pale pink brown and has a distinctive caramel smell. The grain is fine, even and
usually straight.
Workability
Works well but can split when nailed or
screwed.
Applications
Once used for all types of joinery. Also carving, gun stocks, turning,
furniture and shoe heels. Mostly used these days for fine furniture.
Availability
Scarce. We have some stock of 25, 38 and 50mm boards in short to medium
lengths.
Hardness
Janka 4.6 620kg/m3.
Durability
Not durable.
