Danta
(Nesogordonia papaverifera.)
Description
A reddish brown hardwood from West Africa. Has an interlocked grain and
sometimes feels a bit greasy. Can show small pin knots and borer holes.
Workability
Straight grain boards work quite well. The interlocked grain can
cause some problems and increase the sanding required.
Applications
A very good furniture timber though can move around a bit
Availability
Generally available in 25, 38 and 50mm thick. Boards up to 300mm wide are not uncommon.
Hardness
740Kg/m3 Not particularly hard.
Durability
Heartwood is durable.
