Grey Box
Eucalyptus microcarpa
Description
A medium sized hardwood from NSW and QLD. The
heartwood is a pale yellow brown. This timber can have an interlocked grain but
rarely has gum vein.
Workability
Not at all easy.
Applications
Traditionally for heavy construction such as wharfs. Also available as
flooring. The House of Representatives chamber in the Australian parliament has
used Grey Box throughout. Possibly the first and last time this species has been
used to any degree for furniture.

Janka 15 1120kg/m3 - One of the toughest.
Durability
Extremely durable.
