Hoop Pine(Araucaria cunninghamii) DescriptionThis large soft wood is native to northern NSW and Queensland. The heartwood is a pale yellow brown and the sapwood is almost white. The texture is very fine and even. WorkabilityWorks extremely well by machine and hand. A fantastic timber that is miles ahead of the commonly available radiata. It stains, sands and shapes with ease. Its pretty cheap too. That’s a tick in every box. ApplicationsAlmost any indoor use. Not great for floors as it is quite soft though we have supplied it before. Boat builders love it as we can supply up to 6.0m long with no knots! Makes fantastic plywood which we generally stock AvailabilityVery good in most sizes up to 200mm wide. We can also supply some knotty grades as well as our usual clear stock. Great for schools. Readily available as veneer and plywood HardnessJanka 3.4 530kg/m3 Not very hard. DurabilityNot a durable timber for outdoor use. At a Glance
