Ironbark, Red and Grey(Eucalyptus sideroxylon and Eucalyptus paniculata) DescriptionThese large hardwoods grow from Victoria through to Queensland. They are the super heavy weights coming in over 1100kg / m3. the timber ranges in colour from light grey browns through to dark chocolates and reds. The grain has a variable appearance with some fiddleback. WorkabilityNot known as a cabinet timber because it is so dense and tough but it polishes very well and can produce fantastic results. Difficult to glue so take care. With sharp blades it can almost glow straight off the machines. ApplicationsMostly flooring, decking and structural purposes as well as heavy construction and poles. We have produced Ironbark bench-tops and furniture components. It is a timber worth exploring further. AvailabilityCommon as flooring and decking. We stock some KD structural sizes and some furniture sizes. Some of the structural material can yield great furniture boards. HardnessJanka 13 – 14 1130kg / m3 Bloody hard!!
