Dipterocarpus ssp

Description

A large hardwood from SE Asia. Heartwood is generally a pale red brown. Has a high resin content and distinctive smell.

Workability

Silica can cause some problems with machining but generally works well.

Applications

Mostly general construction but we have found it excellent for outdoor furniture and hand rails etc.

Availability

Available as F27 structural timber.

Hardness

Janka 5.7   770kg/m3.

Durability

Moderately durable above ground.
