Virginian Pencil Cedar
Juniperus virginiana
Description
A small softwood from eastern United States. Heartwood is a red brown with a
paler sapwood.
Workability
Works well but can be difficult to nail.
Applications
Traditionally for pencils but can be used for cabinetwork, especially blanket
boxes as its odour repels moths.
Availability
Limited but we do keep 25mm boards.
Hardness
Janka 4.0 520kg/m3. Not very hard.
Durability
Moderately durable.
