Qld Walnut(Endiandra palmerstonii.) DescriptionA large hardwood from Nth Qld. Heartwood has many colours ranging from grey brown to black and pink. Sapwood is pale yellow. The grain is often wavy with a “rowed” grain pattern on quarter sawn boards. The timber smells like a shoe after stepping in what the dog left on the lawn! WorkabilityMachines reasonably well but high silica content kills blades dead. Sands and works with hand tolls well. Can be a bit tricky with the interlocked grain at times. ApplicationsFine furniture and veneers. AvailabilityVery limited. We usually stock some but it is becoming harder to get. Hardness690kg/m3. Moderately hard. DurabilityNot for external use. Don’t waste it outside anyway! At a Glance
