Qld Silky Oak
(Cardwellia sublimis.)
Description
A large hardwood from Nth Queensland. Heartwood is a pink brown. Strong rays are exposed on quarter sawn boards.
Workability
Works well by machine or hand tools. Because of the course grain it never seems to feel silky smooth after sanding. Generally very stable.
Applications
All types of furniture and veneer work.
Availability
Generally readily available.
Hardness
830kg/m3 It doesn’t seem this heavy when you work it.
Durability
Not suitable for outdoor use.
