Queensland Silver Ash
Flindersia bourjotiana
Description
This hardwood grows from the coastal rainforests of Northern NSW through to
north Qld. It has a very pale heartwood which is hard to distinguish from the
sapwood.
Workability
Silver Ash works very well either by hand or machine. Care needs to be taken
not to get the timber “grubby” as you work it due to its pale colour. Bends and
glues well.
Applications
Excellent cabinet timber. Is also used in boat building but must be well
sealed as it is not a durable species.
Availability
Limited due to most timber now coming from
private forestry. We keep good stocks when available.
Hardness
Janka 5 620kg/m3. Not particularly hard.
Durability
Not very durable.
