Southern Blue Gum
(Eucalyptus globulis)
Description
A large hardwood from Victoria and Tasmania. The heartwood is a pale yellow
brown and the grain is usually quite straight. However fiddleback grain is
also sometimes available.
Workability
Works well.
Applications
Mostly flooring. Also an excellent pulp timber and is grown in plantations
for this purpose. The leaves are harvested for their Eucalyptus oil.
Availability
Good.
Hardness
Janka 12.0 Density 900kg/m3.
Durability
Not very good.
