Southern Myrtle
(Luma apiculata.)
Description
This timber is very similar to Tasmanian Myrtle but is native to South America. Heartwood is a pink brown, often with a wavy grain and occasional fiddleback.
Workability
Works very well with all tools and machines. Sands well and takes almost any
polish.
Applications
Excellent for all types of furniture, turning and joinery.
Availability
Generally very good in most sizes, including 75mm thick.
Hardness
Approx 650kg/m3 Not particularly hard.
Durability
Not for outdoor use.
